GFD & GPD Public Safety Day
To kick off National Fire Prevention month in October, the Graham Fire and Police Departments host Public Safety Day during the month of September. This is an informative and interactive event for kids and adults of all ages. The Graham Firefighters also provide a free hotdog lunch for those in attendance. Please make plans to attend.
Disaster Planning
The GFD provides a variety of programs designed to educate the public about specific fire hazards and ways citizens of Graham can minimize their risk. These basic precautions help not only prevent fires from happening but also protects people in the event of an emergency by encouraging them to prepare ahead of time for these scenarios.
Hot Car
Cars can quickly become an oven. Hot cars can prove dangerous and deadly for kids, adults, and pets. Here are some important facts about hot car safety:
- Even with the windows cracked, the temperature inside a car can reach 125 degrees in minutes.
- 80% of the increase in temperature happens in the first 10 minutes.
- Cracking the windows does not help slow the heating process OR decrease the maximum temperature
- Children have died from heatstroke in cars in temps as low as 60 degrees.
Child Passenger Safety Checks
The City of Graham Fire Department does not offer Child Passenger Safety Checks. However, Safe Kids Alamance County, which is led by the Burlington Fire Department does offer these services to help parents and caregivers prevent childhood injuries.
